Who We Are
The Clemente Sports and Arts Foundation is dedicated to providing arts and sports enrichment opportunities for children in Arizona families facing financial challenges. Recognizing that every child possesses hidden talents and passions, the foundation believes in nurturing these qualities through programs that teach athletic, creative, and life skills, as opposed to the influence of television or electronic devices.
Unfortunately, not all families can afford extracurricular activities for their children. To address this, the Clemente Sports and Arts Foundation steps in by covering registration and class fees, providing equipment, uniforms, shoes, and art supplies. This support enables children to broaden their horizons and realize their full potential.
As parents, we share a universal desire for our children to experience happiness and navigate the world with confidence. While our love and care are boundless, fostering self-confidence and self-esteem is a unique challenge. The foundation strives to offer children the opportunity to feel empowered and to cultivate these qualities within themselves, ultimately contributing to their overall well-being and personal development.

Why It's Important
Poverty increases a child’s risk of experiencing behavioral, social and emotional and health challenges. Child poverty can also contribute to reduced skill-building opportunities and academic problems. Having access to coaches, sports and arts programs can help to stimulate their imaginations, coping and problem solving skills.
Why Parent's Are Struggling
According to a national parent survey from the Aspen Institute’s Project Play initiative and Utah State University’s Families in Sport Lab, children aged 6-18 from low-income families are six times more likely to quit sports at the recreational, club and high school levels for financial reasons than children from higher-income families.
The same survey cites the average annual cost per child playing a youth sport to be $693, which hovers around the averages for baseball ($660) and soccer ($537). The average costs take into account registration, equipment, travel, lessons and camps. However, the cost that exceeds all others is travel. Travel is a major part of the estimated $17 billion youth sports industry. On average, parents spend $650 in club dues per child and spend about $500 a weekend on tournament travel costs.
